Multifamily Housing

Joyce Plath's experience with design, development, and project management of multifamily projects goes back to the AlderSpring development, a passive and active solar project built in 1882. These projects range from small, four unit infill projects to a two hundred unit current proposal on seventeen acres. Her most recent projects include the Courtyards in Arcata and the Marsh Commons on the Arcata Marsh.

In all multifamily housing, site planning is given special care to insure that each dwelling unit has a sense of place, adequate solar exposure, and wind sheltered outside areas easily accessible for each dwelling. Shared areas for children's play, gardening, picnics, and casual social interaction can greatly increase the community spirit and well being, making multifamily projects excellent places to live.

Courtyards in Arcata

“Joyce is my favorite architect to work with. She’s creative, cost-sensitive and committed to green construction. I can count on Joyce to meet my deadlines without fail. Her willingness to work is amazing, and I come back to her time and again for my toughest projects. I rely on Joyce for projects in Arcata. She knows the politics and the design specifications of the many committees and commissions that are part of the approval process, and I couldn’t do it without her.” - Sean Armstrong
